WTA Miami Final Preview

This Saturday we have the WTA Final in Miami where Aryna Sabalenka will face Jessica Pegula. Sabalenka is the current World Number 1 and hopes to get her second title of the 2025 season here. The Belarusian season kicked off with a victory in Brisbane where she only dropped one set throughout and that was in the final where she beat Polina Kudermetova 6-1, 6-7, 6-2.

That set her up well for the first major of the year, the Australian Open where she got the runners up medal after losing in three sets to American Madison Keys. She lost the first set 3-6 but they won the second 6-2, in the third she was always chasing the match with Keys serving first. It was a very tight third set but Keys broke in the final game winning 7-5.

She went on to experience early exits in both Doha and Dubai but then got back on track at Indian Wells. She got her revenge on Madison Keys, beating her in the semi-final 6-0, 6-1 and the 26yo didn’t drop a set en route to the final. She was to face Russian Mirra Andreeva, the world number 6 coming here on a high after taking the WTA Dubai the week previously. Aryna Sabalenka took the first set 6-2 but the Russian was going to let this title slip and won the next two 6-4, 6-3 to take her second title of the season.

It was a disappointing loss for Sabalenka but she’s dusted herself off and been faultless in Miami where she has not dropped a set. Some will say she has had an easy route but you can only beat who is in front of you. She will look to not be the bridesmaid for two consecutive competitions.

She faces American Jessica Pegula who is currently ranked number 4, the 31yo will look to gain her revenge after losing in the US Open Final to Sabalenka 5-7, 5-7 last season. This will be her second final of the season after winning the WTA Austin at the beginning of the month beating McCartney Kessler 7-5, 6-2.

This is a far tougher competition but en route she has beaten Marta Kostyuk 6-2, 6-3, then beat Brit Emma Raducanu 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 before beating Alexandra Eala 7-6, 5-7, 6-3. The semi final was a real battle, the wildcard from the Philippines hadn’t dropped a set coming into the semi final. She had knocked out Jelena Ostapenko 7-6, 7-5, Madison Keys 6-4, 6-2 and then shook world number 2 Iga Swiatek 6-2, 7-5.

The American is 6-2 behind on head to heads but we feel she will raise her game in front of her home nation. We can expect a tight tussle and can see it going the distance. Scheduled for 14.00pm Saturday.

The best odds for this fixture can be found at non UKGC casinos: Aryna Sabalenka ⅓ and Jessica Pegula 12/5.
