Upcoming Football Matches Across Europe This Week

We will look at three matches from different leagues in Europe in this article, the first coming from La Liga where Sevilla will host Mallorca at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium. García Pimienta’s side are in 13th position in the table and will come to this home game with some confidence after their victory away from home to Real Valladolid (0-4). It was a game against the bottom of the league but the manner of the win is a quick bounce back after the disappointing home defeat to Barcelona (1-4).

The visitors Mallorca are three points ahead of their opponents in 8th and a victory here will lift them into 6th, Jagoba Arrasate’s side will also arrive here on the back of a victory. They beat Las Palmas at home (3-1). They are just one place above the relegation zone but leading goal scorer Vedat Muriqi got two to add to his season’s tally.

This will be a tight game but can the home advantage sway things in Sevilla’s favour.

The second game for us to look into will come from Serie A where Roma will host Monza at the Stadio Olimpico Stadium, Claudio Ranieri’s side are 9th in the table and pushing for a European place next season. They got through to the next round of the Europa League after a two leg victory against Porto winning 4-3 on aggregate. In the league they have won their last two games, both of them being away to Venezia and Parma where they both finished (0-1). When the two sides met earlier in the season it ended 1-1.

The visitors Monzo are bottom of the table and 9 pts from safety, Alessandro Nesta’s side have lost four of their last five league games which mirrors their position in the table. They picked up a draw at home to Lecce where it ended 0-0 but with just one victory away from home this season we can see this being a very tough night for them. The gap between the two clubs is 23 pts over 25 games.

The final game we will look at comes from Portugal where Porto will host Vitoria at the Estadio do Dragao Stadium, Martin Anselmi’s side sit 4th in the table but 9 pts separates them and top of the league Sporting with just 11 games remaining. They will want to bounce back from a disappointing exit from the Europa League midweek and playing in front of their home fans is a perfect opportunity to get rid of any blues. They have won one and drawn two of their last three matches in Liga Portugal Betclic and the same performance as the last time the two met should get the three points, when they met at the Dom Afonso Henriques Stadium it ended 3-0 to Porto.

The visitors Vitoria are 8th in the table and 15 pts separates the two sides in the table, Luis Freire’s side have failed to score in their last two league games drawing 0-0 away at Famalicao and at home to Braga.

We can’t see anything other than a home victory here.

The home form in La Liga has achieved them top spot winning a impressive five games on the bounce, the run started at home to Valencia (7-1), then followed with victory at home to Alaves (1-0), away at Sevilla (1-4), at home to Rayo Vallecano (1-0) and then beat Las Palmas away (0-2).

The visitors Atletico Madrid are 3rd in La Liga but just one point adrift of their opponents here, Diego Simeone’s side beat Elche convincingly away (0-4) and then Getafe at home (5-0) to reach this stage. They will arrive here on the back of a victory away to Valencia in the league (0-3). Simeone will have a choice of forward options with Julian Alvarez scoring 9 goals so far this season, Alexander Sorloth 9 goals and Antoine Griezmann 8 goals.

They are 8th in La Liga but twenty points behind their opponents here so will that show even with it being a cup match. The homeside remain in the Europa League and are due to play Man United in the knockout phase so fans still have a chance to see some silverware this season.

The visitors Real Madrid beat Celta 5-2 at home and Leganes away 3-2 to get to this stage, it took a 93rd minute goal from Gonzalo Garcia to get the victory in the quarter final.
