Tuesday 25th March League Two Football Preview

We have two fixtures from League Two on Tuesday night to look at with the first coming from Vale Park where Port Vale will welcome Barrow. The head to head reads 3-3 but the two sides are separated by 19 pts in the table after 37 games. The homeside sit in 4th with Darren Moore’s side looking to secure automatic promotion when the season comes to a close, they arrive at this midweek game on the back of two consecutive victories beating MK Dons 3-0 and Morecambe 1-0 both of which were at home.

Port Vale know that a win here will leapfrog Wimbledon and lift them up to 3rd, the forward choice of Jayden Stockley (8 goals), Lorent Tolaj (8 goals) and Ronan Curtis (5 goals) will cause the opponents defence no end of trouble.

The visitors Barrow beat Port Vale earlier in the season 4-0 so they now look to complete the home and away double. They arrive here in 17th place with no worries of relegation but at the same time no hope for promotion this season. Andy Whing’s side will arrive at this fixture unbeaten in four matches with the run starting with a victory away to Notts County (1-2), followed by a home win against Accrington (2-0), then two draws away to Morecambe and Wimbledon both of which ended (2-2).

We expect a game that produces goals here but the homeside have more to play for and their league position will show the difference between the sides on match day.

The second of the evenings fixtures is from Brunton Park where Carlisle will host MK Dons, this fixture has produced two or more goals in forteen of the fifteen games so this looks to be an entertaining game of football.  The homeside sit at the foot of the table with seven points between themselves and safety with nine fixtures remaining, Mark Hughes’s side have won just two games since the beginning of February with those coming away to Barrow (0-1) and then at home to Bromley in their last game (2-1). The league strugglers could really do with getting back to back victories here as their next two fixtures are tough, they have Doncaster away and Chesterfield away also.

The visitors MK Dons are 15 pts ahead of their opponents in the table and Ben Gladwin’s side have beaten their challengers the last three times and hope to complete this season’s home and away double having won 3-0 at Stadium MK earlier in the season. The away side had a awful run of form through February losing four and drawing one but March has been a turning point for them.

They have won two and lost one of their last three league fixtures, they beat Morecambe at home 2-1, lost away to promotion challengers Port Vale 3-0 and then beat Cheltenham away 1-0 last weekend. We expect captain Alex Gilbey to start up front as he looks to add to his 10 goal league tally for the season.

The homeside definitely need the points more but will the league positions be the difference between the two sides?
