Tuesday 25th February Championship Football Preview

We just have the two midweek games from the Championship this week the first is from the Cardiff City Stadium where Cardiff host Hull, Omer Riza’s side are 21st with just three points separating them from the bottom three currently. The Welsh side had some good fortune beating Stoke in the FA Cup fourth round on penalties, they were two up in 90 minutes in which it ended 3-3 before it being decided from spot kicks.

The homesides form hasn’t been great in the league, since the beginning of the month they have been beaten away at Leeds (7-0), away at Portsmouth (2-1), then have only managed draws at home to Bristol City and away to Plymouth where both games ended 1-1. Riza’s side could really do with maximum points here as their next two games are at home to 3rd place Burnley and then away to 4th place Sunderland.

The visitors Hull are just one place above their opponents here in 20th with the two only separated by goal difference, Ruben Selles side ended a three game winless run when they beat Sunderland 1-0 at the Stadium of Light this weekend, previously to that they had suffered losses at home to Stoke (1-2), away at Burnley (2-0) and then picked up a draw at home to Norwich (1-1). The last seven times these two sides have met Hull have won all of them and we can see it becoming eight games this week. Kick off 19.45pm Tuesday.

The second game comes from the Bet365 Stadium where Stoke City host Middlesbrough, Mark Robins side are 19th in the Championship and have lost two of their last three games. They lost away to Bristol City (2-0), won at home to Swansea (3-1) and then lost away to Norwich (4-2). The homeside have a bit of breathing space with five points separating them from the bottom three places but they have some tough fixtures coming up after this at home to Watford, away to Coventry and at home to Blackburn which could easily see them struggling to get points.

The visitors Middlesbrough are 13th in the table, Michael Carrick’s side are 7 pts away from the top 6 after five defeats on the bounce. The poor run started away at Preston losing (2-1), at home to Sunderland losing (2-3), away to Sheffield United losing (3-1), lost at home to Watford (0-1) and finally an away defeat to Bristol City (2-1). Carrick’s team will try to complete the home and away double over Stoke this season as they won 2-0 earlier in the campaign. Kick off 19.45pm Tuesday Live on Sky Sports.
