Thursday 6th March Premier League Darts Preview

This Thursday we have Night 5 of the Premier League season, in this article we will look at the first set of contests for the evening. Starting off is Gerwyn Price up against Michael Van Gerwen, the Welshman lost his first match last week to Luke Humphries 6-4 and also made an early exit in the Cazoo UK Open at the weekend where he lost 10-9 to C Scutt. We can expect a tight contest here but Price needs to bounce back.

The opponent Van Gerwen has won his last two matches against Price one was in last years Premier League Darts 6-3 and the other in the Players Championship 8-4, the Dutchman is in 4th place in the table currently and he also made an early exit in the Cazoo Open losing 10-8 to Rob Owen. Van Gerwen will hope he can better last week’s performance as he lost 6-5 to Rob Cross meaning he had an early bath last Thursday also.

The second encounter of the night is Luke Littler up against Chris Dobey, the two have only met twice and the head to head is 1-1, Littler won the Cazoo UK Open at the weekend so will arrive here in good spirits. He won night 4 of the Premier League and then last week he won two matches which left him second in the table. We expect him to win his first contest of the evening.

His opponent Chris Dobey has lost his opening Premier League matches for the last three weeks and we can’t see him making any improvement here. The Brit lost in the second match of the Cazoo Open 10-9 to Den Bergh at the weekend.

The third contest to look at is Rob Cross up against Luke Humphries, Cross hasn’t got past the second match of any of the four nights so far and this week it doesn’t look likely to get past the first. He is 6th in the table at present with 4 pts.

His opponent Luke Humphries is 7 pts clear at the top of the table after winning the first week and the fourth week’s three contests. When the two players met last week in the competition it was Humprhies that came off better winning 6-5. He won three matches in the Cazoo Open at the weekend before losing 10-9 to James Wade. We expect the World Number One to show why he is here.

The last of the opening contests of night 5 comes from Stephen Bunting and Nathan Aspinall, Bunting has won the last three contests with the most recent one ending 11-1! Bunting has yet to win an opening match here but this is a chance to get some points on the board. He didn’t give his fans much joy after a first round exit in the Cazoo UK Open to Chris Dobey 10-6 at the weekend.

His opponent Nathan Aspinall is 5th in the table with 5 pts, his best evening was night 3 when he won two matches against Rob Cross 6-3 and then Michael Van Gerwen 6-3 before losing to Gerwyn Price 6-3 in the third contest. His current form is better than his opponent here but their head to heads suggest Bunting is going to win.
