We just have three more contests left from the last 16 of the FA Cup to preview the first being from St James’ Park where Newcastle host Brighton, Eddie Howe’s side beat Birmingham away 3-2 to reach this stage of the competition. In the Premiership they sit in 6th but just a point separates themselves with their opponents here.
The Magpies have a Wembley trip upcoming for the EFL Cup Final where they will face Liverpool, it’s been a great season for Howe’s side thanks to the help of Alexander Isak who’s scored 19 goals this season up to now, Anthony Gordon 6 goals and also Jacob Murphy who’s scored 5 goals. We can expect there to be goals here.
The visitors Brighton are 8th in the table, Fabian Hurzler’s side beat Chelsea at home 2-1 to get to this stage. In the Premiership they have won their last three games at home to Chelsea (3-0), away to bottom of the table Southampton (0-4) and then Bournemouth at home (2-1). The last time the two sides met here in the Premier League it ended with Brighton leaving with three points (0-1) so will it be the same result in the cup?

The second game of the day comes from Old Trafford where Man United host Fulham, Ruben Amorim’s side have beaten Fulham at home and away 1-0 in the Premiership so will we experience a similar scoreline in the cup. The Reds sit 15th in the league after what can only be described as a poor season, they had lost their last two games in the Premiership away at Crystal Palace (0-2) and away at Tottenham (1-0) before the trip to Everton.
They were two down to the Merseyside club before half time but managed to get it back to 2-2 thanks to Bruno Fernandes and Ugarte. You’d expect Amorim to play a best starting eleven with Rasmus Hojlund leading the front line.
The visitors Fulham are 9th in the table with 12 points more than their opponents here, Marco Silva’s side beat Wigan away 2-1 to reach this stage. They will arrive in good form having won two of their last three matches beating Forest at home (2-1), losing at home to Palace (0-2) and more recently getting back on track with an away victory over Wolves (1-2). Anything can happen in the cup but we expect a low scoring tie here.

The final tie of the round comes from the City Ground where Nottingham Forest host Ipswich, Nuno Santos side beat Exeter on penalties 4-2 to get to this round. Since then they have suffered two away defeats to Fulham (2-1) and Newcastle (4-3) but still remain in 4th place but now they are just a point ahead of Chelsea in 4th.
The last time these two sides met it ended 1-0 to Forest so can the Midlands club get back on winning form here?
The visitors Ipswich beat Coventry away 4-1 to get to the last 16 but in the league they are 5 pts from safety and collecting just one point in their last six matches. It will be interesting to see if they rest some players to concentrate on their Premiership survival.
