German DFB Pokal Football Semi-Final Preview

We have the two Semi-Finals of the German Cup this week to preview with you with the first of them coming from the Schuco-Arena where Bielefeld face Leverkusen, Michel Kniat’s side are 4th in the German 3rd division so what a achievement it is to reach this stage of the competition.

The homeside have beaten three top flight German sides to get to this stage, they beat Union Berlin at home (2-0), they beat Freiburg at home (3-1) and in the last round they beat Bremen (2-1). They arrive at this fixture unbeaten in three league games but this is a massive step up in class but can they beat another top flight German side and get to the final?

The visitors Leverkusen haven’t played Bielefeld since the 2021 when they met in the Bundesliga, it ended 0-4 and 3-0 both in favour of Leverkusen. They now have a different coach in charge in Xabi Alonso, the young manager has got his side to a clear second in the league and with seven games remaining it looks nailed on for a runners up spot.

They were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich losing 5-0 on aggregate but bounced back with two league victories away to Stuttgart (3-4) and at home to Bochum (3-1). With striker Patrik Schick up front it looks a great opportunity to add to his 17 goals for the season.

Match Betting: Bielefeld 12/1, Leverkusen 2/11 and the Draw 13/2 Kick off 19.45pm Tuesday Live on Premier Sports Player

The second Semi-Final comes from the MHP Arena where Stuttgart will host Leipzig, the two sides met here earlier in the season with the homeside winning 2-1. This is now a cup game so will there be a reverse? Sebastian Hoeneb’s side beat Augsburg 1-0 in the previous round to be in with a chance to be finalists.

In the Bundesliga they sit in 10th and without a win in six games, the last victory was away at Dortmund where they won (1-2). Since that victory they have accumulated just two points with draws away at Hoffenheim (1-1) and away at Kiel (2-2). Can they up their game here and get back on the winning front.

The visitors Leipzig are 6th in the table and en route to a spot in one of the European competitions next season, they arrive at this fixture in not the best of current form having won just one of their last four fixtures. That victory was at home to Dortmund winning 2-0. They beat Wolfsburg in the previous round 1-0 where a goal from the penalty spot by Benjamin Sesko was the only goal of the game. There are only five points between them in the table so we can expect a close game.

Match Betting: Stuttgart 21/20, Leipzig 13/5 and the Draw 5/2 Kick off 19.45pm Wednesday
