Friday 7th March Football Preview

This Friday we have your entertainment sorted with three televised matches to preview for you football fans. The first game comes from the Championship where Norwich will host Oxford at Carrow Road, Johannes Thorip’s side are 11th as it stands and with 11 games remaining of the season they need to close down the five point gap to the playoff positions. The homeside have just won one of their last five league matches and that was at home to Stoke beating them 4-2. 

The visitors Oxford beat Norwich 2-0 earlier in the season so will Gary Rowett’s side do the home and away double? They are 18th in the table and 7 pts away from the drop zone with 11 games remaining. They have a bit of a cushion but with their current poor form they could easily find themselves amongst it, they have lost their last three games in the Championship at home to Portsmouth (0-2), away at West Brom (2-0) and at home to Coventry (2-3).

The second game we will look at comes from Serie A where Cagliari will host Genoa at the Unipol Domus Stadium, when the two sides met earlier in the season it ended 2-2 with the away side Cagliari scoring a 88th minute penalty to share the points. David Nicola’s side are 15th in the table and just three points outside of the relegation zone with 11 games remaining. The homeside will arrive at this game on the back of two defeats at home to Juventus (0-1) and away at Bologna (2-1). 

The visitors Genoa are six points ahead of their opponents in 12th place, Patrick Vieira’s side haven’t won in two games they lost away to top of the table Inter (1-0) and then drew at home to Empoli (1-1). The away side haven’t won an away game in five league matches so will that change here?

The last game for us to look at is from Ligue 1 where Toulouse will host Monaco at the Stadium de Toulouse, Carles Martinez’s side are 8th in the table and six points away from a European place with just ten games remaining. They arrive here on the back of two away victories to Le Havre (1-4) and Angers (0-4) so they aren’t shy of scoring at present.

The visitors Monaco won 2-0 when the two sides met earlier in the season, Adolf Hutter’s side  are 4th in the league and on course for a Champions League place next season. They were eliminated from this season’s tournament losing 4-3 on aggregate in the first knockout phase tie. In the league they have won one and lost one of their last two games, they lost away to Lille (2-1) and won at home to Reims (3-0). We can expect goals in this game.
