Friday 18th April Football Betting Preview

We have three televised fixtures from the Championship on Good Friday to look at with you, the first of those comes from Pride Park where Derby welcome Luton for an early kick off. We were gifted with an exciting game of football earlier in the season where Luton gave their fans a reason to be happy with a 92nd minute winner by their captain Carlton Morris finishing the game 2-1. Both sides are desperate for a victory here in a survival tussle.

John Eustace’s side have the advantage of playing in front of their home fans now but after a four game winning streak they now find themselves without a victory in their last three league games. They lost away to Swansea (1-0), drew at home against Burnley (0-0) and then their last game was a draw away at Portsmouth where they conceded in injury time (2-2). They are one place above the drop zone with a point keeping them afloat.

The visitors Luton are 23rd with three points adrift of safety with just four games of their season left, Matt Bloomfield’s side are in a fight to avoid back to back seasons relegations after their drop from the Premier League last season. Like their opponents they also come into this fixture without a win in three matches, they drew 1-1 at home to Leeds as well as away to Stoke and then their last fixture was a home defeat to Blackburn (0-1). Their last three matches of the season are all against teams fighting for a playoff position so it’s going to be a tough battle if they don’t come away from this match with anything.

Match Betting: Derby 6/4, Luton 21/10 and the Draw 2/1. Kick off 12.30pm Live on Sky Sports Go.

The second game to look at is from Bramall Lane where Sheffield Utd welcome Cardiff, the two sides met here in the FA Cup earlier in the season with the Welsh side edging it 0-1. Chris Wilder’s side look to complete the home and away double in the league though after a 0-2 in December, they need to put a stop to a three match losing run which has resulted in slipping five points adrift of the automatic promotion places. They lost away to Oxford (1-0), lost at home to Millwall (0-1) and then in their last fixture they lost away to bottom of the league Plymouth (2-1).

Their opponents Cardiff are 22nd in the table and in the drop zone as it stands albeit by only one point. Omer Riza’s side have drawn three and lost one of the last four Championship games. Furthermore they have one just once in their last eight which was away against Blackburn (1-2). This is a fixture of two sides low on confidence so it will be interesting to see how it develops.

Match Betting: Sheffield Utd 4/7, Cardiff 19/4 and the Draw 3/1 Kick off 17.30pm Live on Sky Sports Main Event

The late fixture is from the Kassam Stadium where Oxford are hosting league leaders Leeds, Gary Rowett’s side are 17th in the table with six points above the relation zone with just four games remaining. They arrive at this match on the back of a victory away from home against Sheffield Wednesday (0-1). This will be a tough contest for them for sure but they have the advantage of playing at home.

The visitors Leeds look to complete the home and away double over their opponents after a 4-0 thrashing at Elland Road, Daniel Farke’s side arrive here on the back of back to back victories away at Middlesbrough (0-1) and at home to Preston (2-1). They are in a great position now to achieve automatic promotion to the top flight of English football but I’m sure they will want to win the title for their fans.

Match Betting: Oxford 15/2, Leeds 4/11 and the Draw 21/5 Kick off 20.00pm Live on Sky Sports Main Event

We have two games of football to look at with you guys, the first of those is from La Liga where Espanyol will welcome Getafe to the RCDE Stadium. The homeside are 15th in the table and six points above the bottom three with eight games of the Spanish season remaining. Manolo Gonzalez’s side look to make it three wins on the bounce here away to away victories against Rayo Vallecano (0-4) and Celta (0-2). Roberto Fernandez has scored three in his last two matches so can he help his side to victory here.

They face a side in Getafe who are midtable, Jose Bordalas’s team will be hopeful a match on the road can bring out a result as their last two home games have ended in defeat. They lost to Villareal 1-2 and relegation candidates Las Palmas 1-3. This will be no easy contest but they did beat their opponents earlier in the campaign 1-0 so they can gain confidence from that.

Match Betting: Espanyol 13/8, Getafe 21/10 and the Draw 7/4 Kick off 20.00pm Live on Premier Sports

The other fixture to look at comes from Ligue 1 where Rennes will welcome Nantes to the Roazhon Park, this was an extremely close match earlier in the season with the only goal coming in the final few minutes of the game. Habib Beye’s side are 11th in the table and come here straight from a victory away to struggling Le Havre (1-5). They look to put a stop to a two home game losing run here.

They face a side in Nantes who look to complete the home and away double after a victory earlier in the season (1-0). Antoine Kombouare’s side are five points behind their opponents in 13th in the table but they also arrive here from a victory away from home. They beat Nice 1-2. We expect there to be more goals here than the game earlier in the season with both sides capable of getting on the scoresheet.

Match Betting: Rennes ⅘, Nantes 7/2 and the Draw 13/5 Kick off 19.45pm Live on Ligue 1 Pass
