Wednesday 26th February Premier League Football Preview

This Wednesday we have no fewer than five matches from the top flight of English football, the first one we will look at comes from the Brentford Community Stadium with Brentford hosting Everton. Thomas Frank’s Brentford side remained in 11th in the table after their victory away to Leicester making it two consecutive wins in the Premiership, making it also three away wins on spin for Frank’s side. They had beaten West Ham (0-1) and also Crystal Palace (1-2).

The visitors Everton are 14th in the table and 6 pts behind their opponents here, since David Moyes has taken over for his second stint at the Merseyside club he’s only been beaten in his opening game at home to Aston Villa losing 0-1. In the league since that day his side have won four and drawn two games. They will arrive into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw at home to Man United where they threw away a two goal first half lead. The two sides drew 0-0 at Goodison Park with Brentford playing the second half with ten men after Christian Norgaard saw a straight red.

The second game we will preview comes from Old Trafford with Man United hosting Ipswich, Ruben Amorim’s side are 15th just three places above their opponents in the table after what can only be described as a poor season for the Manchester club. They still remain in the FA Cup where they have a home tie against Fulham as well as the Europa League knockout phase where they play away to Real Sociedad. Amorim’s team are without a win in their last three Premiership games where they have lost at home to Palace 0-2, away to Spurs 1-0 and they picked up a draw away at Everton last weekend after being two goals down.

The visitors Ipswich are in 18th in the table and are looking like they will be playing Championship football next season, Kieran McKenna’s side have 5 pts to make up to get out the relegation zone. They have just one point from their last six league games which was away at Villa with the game ending 1-1. They have a last 16 FA Cup tie away at Forest next month but I’m sure staying in the top flight would be their priority.

The next game comes from the City ground where Nottingham Forest host Arsenal, Nuno Santos side are 3rd in the table after a great season so far. They have slightly been off form since their thrashing away to Bournemouth where they lost 5-0, they did bounce straight back with a 7-0 win at home to Brighton but from then they have lost their last two away games to Fulham (2-1) and Newcastle (4-3). They will be glad to be back playing in front of their home fans.

The visitors Arsenal are second in the table but slipped 11 pts behind Liverpool at the weekend after their defeat at home to West Ham, Mikel Arteta’s side’s first defeat at home this season. That was also the first defeat in all games in the Premiership since the beginning of November where they lost away to Newcastle 1-0 so fans will be hoping it was just a plip. The Gunners just have the Champions League remaining for their chance of silverware this season where they face a trip to PSV next.

The next game comes from the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium where Spurs host Man City, Ange Postecoglou’s side have moved up to 12th in the table after victories in their last three Premiership games. The run started with a win away to Brentford (0-2), followed by a win at home to Man United (1-0) and more recently a away victory to Ipswich (1-4). Although European football looks unlikely for them next season they will want to continue their good run of form to finish as high as possible.

The visitors Man City remained in 4th in the table after their home defeat to Liverpool at the weekend 0-2, it had been a disappointing week for them after a Champions League exit to Real Madrid midweek too. Pep Guardiola’s side remain in the FA Cup and have a last 16 tie at home to Plymouth next.

The final game of the evening comes from Anfield where Liverpool host Newcastle, Arne Slot’s side moved to 11 pts clear at the top after a 2-0 victory away to Man City at the weekend. They had been in two consecutive 2-2 draws away from home previously to Everton and Aston Villa. They have no FA Cup tie next weekend after a defeat to Plymouth so the team can have a rest after this before a trip to PSG in the Champions League.

The visitors Newcastle moved back up to 5th after a 4-3 win at home to Forest at the weekend, Eddie Howe’s men will have to tighten their defence if they want to get anything out of this contest as the Liverpool forward options are strong. The last time this two met earlier in the season it ended 3-3 at St James’ Park so we wouldn’t be surprised if we have a few goals.
