Saturday 29th March Championship Football Preview

In this article we will look at four fixtures involving teams at the top of the league. The first fixture we will look at is from Turf Moor where Burnley will welcome Bristol City, Scott Parker’s side are 3rd in the table but there’s only two points between themselves and top of the table. The homeside will look to complete the home and away double over their opponents here after a close fought 1-0 victory earlier in the season. The Lancashire side have got back to winning ways winning four of their last five fixtures. They beat Sheffield Wednesday at home (4-0), Cardiff away (1-2), Luton at home (4-0), drew at home against West Brom (1-1) and then beat Swansea away (0-2) in their last fixture.

The visitors Bristol City sit one place outside the play off places but only goal difference is doing so, Liam Manning’s side arrive here being unbeaten in seven fixtures where they have won four and drawn the other three. With two of their draws being away from home you’d have to say that their home form is better. We expect a close game again but will the 21 point gap in the league show who’s the better side? Kick off 15.00pm.

The next game to look at comes from Elland Road where Leeds will welcome Swansea, the fixture earlier in the season finished with seven goals. Daniel Farke’s side will look to complete the home and away double over their opponents after a 4-3 victory earlier in the season. The league leaders are separated only by goal difference from Sheffield Utd after dropping points in their last game, they went two goals down away to QPR but managed to finish the game 2-2. They expect to get back to winning ways in front of their home crowd here.

The visitors Swansea are 16th in the table and arrive here on the back of two defeats. Alan Sheehan’s side lost away at Watford (1-0) and then at home to Bunrley (0-2). There is a massive 36 pts between the two sides after 38 games which we feel will show in this games result also. Kick off 15.00pm

The next fixture to look at is from Carrow Road where Norwich will welcome West Brom, Johannes Thorup’s side sit midtable after an average season. The homeside will arrive at this game on the back of two defeats at home to Sheffield Wednesday (2-3) and away to Bristol City (2-1). They have been found wanting against top six sides so will that be the case again here?

The visitors West Brom fill the final play off position as it stands but Tony Mowbray’s side can’t afford any slip ups after drawing their last two games away at Burnley (1-1) and at home to Hull (1-1). Both of those games they gave away the lead so can they put a stop to that trend here? Kick off 15.00pm.

The final fixture to look at with you comes from the Stadium of Light where Sunderland will host Millwall, Regis Le Bris’s side look certain to gain a play off place with the gap from 4th to 5th being nine points with nine games remaining. Although it’s not mathematically certain it’s unlikely they will get automatic promotion or drop out of the play off places come the end of the season. They come into this game without a victory in their last two drawing at home to Preston (1-1) and then losing away to play off contenders Coventry away (3-0). This looks like a good opportunity to get back to winning ways.

The visitors Millwall sit in 11th place with six points to make up to get into the top six, Alex Neil’s side arrive here on the back of a victory at home to Stoke scoring a 94th minute penalty to win the game. This will be a much tougher task but they certainly arrive in better form than their opponents.
